Pengertian Narrative Dan Desriptive Text, Struktur & Contoh – Mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris sudah diperkenalkan sejak bangku Sekolah Dasar dan terus diajarkan hingga jenjang pendidikan perguruan tinggi.

Terdapat jenis-jenis teks dengan karaketristiknya masing-masing yang dipelajari dalam pelajaran bahasa, tak terkecuali bahasa Inggris.

Pengertian Narrative Text Dan Descriptive Text 

Kita mengenal jenis teks narrative dan descriptive dalam bahasa Inggris. Teks tersebut mempunyai struktur, tenses dan tujuannya tersendiri. Pada kesempatan ini akan dijelaskan tentang teks narrative dan descriptive.

Narrative Text

Merupakan sebuah cerita baik secara lisan maupun tulisan mengenai peristiwa-peristiwa yang saling berkaitan. Bersifat imajinatif dan bertujuan untuk menghibur. Biasanya berisi tentang cerita fiktif, non-fiktif, cerita rakyat, dongeng, fabel dan sebagainya.

Struktur

Narrative text mempunyai struktur :

Orientation

merupakan latar cerita atau adegan dan berisi tentang pengenalan tokoh-tokoh yang terlibat di dalam cerita (terdiri dari tokoh utama dan tokoh pendukung dalam sebuah latar tempat dan atau waktu).

Complication

berisi tentang rangkaian-rangkaian cerita yang mengantarkan kepada krisis atau masalah yang muncul dalam cerita. Komplikasi dalam cerita dapat dibedakan menjadi :

Konflik Fisik (Physical Conflict)

Ialah semua konflik yang mucul dan berkaitan dengan fisik

Konflik Alam (Natural Conflict)

Ialah konflik yang muncul saat tokoh utama berhadapan dengan alam

Konflik Sosial (Social Conflict)

Ialah konflik yang terjadi antara tokoh-tokoh dalam cerita

Konflik Psikologis (Psychological Conflict)

Ialah konflik yang muncul saat tokoh utama berhadapan dengan dirinya sendiri. Terjadi pertentangan batin di dalam diri tokoh utama.

Resolution : berisi tentang solusi atau pemecahan masalah yang mucul di bagian sebelumnya. Cerita dapat berakhir baik (happy ending) atau buruk (sad ending).

Re–Orientation : berisi pernyataan penutup cerita, biasanya disertai dengan pesan moral (moral value) atau nasihat. Re-Orientation boleh disertakan atau tidak dalam sebuah cerita (opsional).

Languange Features dalam narrative text, yaitu :

• Tenses yang digunakan ialah simple past tense
• Biasanya terdapat atau dimulai dengan keterangan waktu, seperti long time ago dan once upon a time
• Memakai kata penghubung waktu, seperti several days later dan finally.
• Biasanya terdapat dialog antartoko cerita

Contoh

The Crying Stone

Complication One day, she was bored to her old clothes. “My and my necklace look so ugly. I need to buy new dress and necklace”, she said. So, she asked her mother to buy her new dress and necklace, “Mom, my dress and necklace have been old. Buy me the new ones, Mom.” Her mother loved her so much, although her daughter was doing nothing to help her mother. Then, both of them went to a market. During the journey, some villagers talked to Darmi, “Hey, girl! Is that old woman your mother?”. Darmi replied, “What? My mother? You must be kidding. She’s my maid.” Then Darmi commanded, “Hey, maid! Hurry up and bring my new dress!”. Her mother said, “Oh my dear. I’m so tired. Won’t you help me?”. “I’m tired too. Shut up and kepp walking!”, Darmi said. Darmi’s mother felt so sad and angry at the same time because Darmi was never showing her respect to her mother. So, Darmi’s mother prayed to God, “My Lord, my daughter never helped me and hurt my heart. I pray and beg to you to punish her as she is unpolite to me. Punish her, My Lord. Punish her!”. Darmi was frightened and said, “Mother, please forgive me. I will be a good and polite daughter for you. Please forgive me mother”.

Re-Orientation The moral value of the story is we must respect and love our parents unconditionally. The parents will always give everything as possible as they can ever do. So, we have to thank to our parents by making them happy.

Resolution But, it was too late. Darmi’s body turned into a stone started from the legs. Finally, Darmi’s body was full stone and she kept crying. That is why it is called the crying stone.

Orientation Once upon a time there lived a girl named Darmi. She lived in a village with her mother. Darmi was a lazy girl. She never helped her mother to do all the households. She looked at herself on the mirror and primped all day long.

Descriptive Text

Ialah sebuah teks yang memberikan gambaran tentang sifat-sifat yang melekat pada suatu hal atau benda. Bertujuan untuk menggambarkan sesuatu, apakah itu seseorang, benda atau hal dengan keterangan sifat-sifat yang ada pada sesuatu tersebut sehingga para pembaca dapat membayangkan objek deskripsi, terutama bila pembaca belum pernah melihat objek deskripsi sebelumnya.

Struktur Descriptive Text

Generic structure dari descriptive text, yaitu :

Identification

berisi tentang perkenalan objek yang akan dideskripsikan.

Description

berisi tentang sifat-sifat yang melekat pada objek tersebut.

Language Features dari descriptive text, yaitu :

• Tenses yang digunakan adalah simple present tense sebab teks ini menceritakan tentang fakta atau kebenaran.
• Biasanya banyak terdapat kata sifat (adjective) karena di dalam teks menggambarkan objek beserta sifat-sifatnya.
• Menggunakan kata kerja penghubung (relating verb)

Contoh Descriptive Text

Identification I like cats. I have one of them at my house. Its name is Lolly. Lolly is a female cat. I named her Lolly because it is lovely. Lolly is a short form of “lovely”. Her name suits her so much.

Lolly The Kitty

Description Lolly is a Persian cat. It has very soft white fur. Its has pink round pointed nose. Its eyes are big and round. It has big ears. Lolly loves to play ball. It usually eats in the morning and afternoon. It likes packed cat food. If I give Lolly cooked rice mixed with savory, it won’t eat the food nor even get closer. My Lolly doesn’t like shower time. It always runs when I’m trying  to shower it. However, it’s cute. Lolly will always meows to me every time I come home. Lolly is really lovely.
